Project “Human ” :

‘Project Human’ aims at developing aesthetic awareness, an erudite sense of form and a keen understanding of the different media in children ages 6 to 14. A healthy environment has been created in which positive social and cultural interaction is possible. Through ‘Project Human’, Dar al-Anda hopes to contribute positively to the development of the society of the future.
To achieve these goals, Dar al-Anda will host free workshops, ‘hands on’ classes in drawing, sculpture, pottery, music, etc. given by specialized teachers.
Such an ambitious project would of course benefit from the support of concerned parties.

Summery of project ( Insan):
Insan, is a venue that is created for the children of Jabal Al Weibdeh; it is one of the main foundations of Dar Al-Anda that cares and focuses on children of the neighbourhood. Offering a public library that opens two hours daily.

We offer art lessons, reading sessions as well as drama workshops. The library provides two computers at no charge; in addition a librarian is present at all times.
Our aim is to achieve an informal method of education, where team work and unity between the children is highly encouraged. Another goal that we pay much attention to is bringing out the youthful creativity within the child's soul. Throughout all of this we constantly expose them to the world of art and educate them with various artistic methods.
Informal direction can concentrate on the children's needs without applying any pressure on them on the contrary a relaxed and loving working atmosphere are the basis of which Insan works by.

Participants:
We target the age group from 8-14 years old.

Workshops Between 2002-2008 :

Freedom of the child's mind is a priority. This is achieved by allowing them to work as they please. Along the way of implementing Insan's beliefs, the process rather than the result becomes the main focus, we only teach them how to use materials and mix colours. We want to plant a sense of self confidence within them and give them their independence so that they can research, produce and gain an income out of their own production sales.
On the course of a year, we have had five workshops which include:

  • A drama workshop was contributed by Samar Dudein. The workshop was costless even Samar refused to get paid.
An art workshop made by Sudanese artist Abdulqader Bakhit. It cost us 150 JD's for material. Abdulqader also contributed his skills at no charge.

The location:

Jabal Al-Weibdeh is one of the oldest spots in Amman which used to be the elite area in the mid thirtees, afterwards Amman expanded, and fifty years later this became a place for low income earners and the elites moved to the outskirts of the city.

My husband and I were searching for a unique place and our search was over once we found Dar Al-Anda with the help of the leading engineering company (Omraniah), General manager Mr. Bassem Al-Shihabi donated the renovation plan for Al-Anda, it took a year to renovate it and a baby was brought to life.

Dar Al-Anda is an art gallery; from the sales of our paintings and art  we managed to pay our bills and expenses for Insan.
All above is a personal achievement and our project has not received any support from any official part,It Is mainly sponsored by Majdoline Al Ghezawi and Saleh Al Ghoul, so in order to continue we are always happy to sell some art work

The Children’s Library:
Jebel Luweibdeh hosts al-Anda, and in turn al-Anda hosts the children of the residents of Luweibdeh. It has designated one of its buildings as a children’s public library that opens its doors daily for two hours. Neighbors interact and cooperate!
